Sharona Nathan Counselling
ABOUT ME
For as long as I can remember, I have been the person friends and family turn to — the one trusted with the hard conversations, the quiet worries, and the conflicts that needed a careful, steady hand. There has always been something very meaningful to me about being present for someone in a difficult time, and helping them find their way through it.
That eventually led me back to study, and I now hold a Master of Counselling from Monash University. But the real foundation was built across more than two decades of working closely with people.
Before entering education, I spent ten years in market research - work that taught me to listen beneath the surface, ask questions that opened people up, and pay close attention to what wasn't being said.
I then spent 15 years in secondary education. For me, teaching was never just about the curriculum — it was about the people sitting in front of me. As a Mathematics teacher, I worked closely with adolescents during some of their most challenging years, building trust with them and their families, and collaborating with support staff and health practitioners to ensure each student had what they needed — not just academically, but as a whole person.
As a Teacher Mentor, I worked one-on-one with colleagues to help them grow in confidence and skill. Sitting with someone who is capable but unsure, helping them see what they can’t yet see in themselves, is not so different from what I do now.
I work in a way that is person-centred, compassionate, and completely non-judgmental. I believe every person already holds the capacity for growth and change and knows more about themselves than they think — my role is simply to help you access it. Whether you are carrying something heavy, navigating a difficult time, or just looking for a calm space to think things through, I am here to listen with genuine care.
MY APPROACH
My approach to counselling is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a genuine belief in each person's capacity for growth and change.
I work in a way that is person-centred — which means you are the expert on your own life. My role is not to tell you what to do or who to be, but to walk beside you and help you access your own strengths and find your own way forward. Our sessions are shaped around your goals, your pace, and what matters most to you.
Above all, I aim to create a space that feels safe, warm, and non-judgmental. Whatever you bring into the room, you will be met with openness and respect.
I draw on a range of evidence-based techniques and interventions, and tailor my practice to each individual, because no two people are the same.
